Celebrating Local Flavours: Our Partnership with Allanhill Farm

We’re passionate about using the finest local ingredients, which is why we’re thrilled to partner with Allanhill Farm, a family-run farm in Fife renowned for its exceptional strawberries. We recently had the pleasure of chatting with Phoebe, the third generation to farm at Allanhill, to learn more about what makes their strawberries so special.

The Story of Allanhill Farm

Allanhill Farm has been a family affair since 1952, and they’ve been perfecting the art of growing strawberries for nearly 30 years. Phoebe, who now runs the soft fruit business, shared,

“We’re very focused on flavour when it comes to our growing methods. We carefully choose varieties that thrive in our climate, and we fine-tune feeding and watering to get the best out of every plant.”

Fife’s unique soil and long, cool growing season contribute to the sweetness of Allanhill’s strawberries. Phoebe explained,

“The fantastic soil here in Fife, along with lots of Scottish summer light, helps the berries develop a sweeter flavour.”

It’s this dedication to quality that makes Allanhill strawberries a perfect match for our beloved bakes, especially our iconic strawberry tarts.

Family and Tradition at Allanhill

Like Fisher & Donaldson, Allanhill Farm is steeped in family tradition. Phoebe is proud to continue the legacy, working closely with her father, who has decades of experience.

“He’s hugely supportive of me taking on the day-to-day running of the soft fruit business, although he keeps threatening to retire!” she laughs.

This partnership is more than just business; it’s about supporting local enterprises and celebrating the best of Fife’s produce.

“It’s great to support each other and make the most of our fantastic Fife-grown produce,” Phoebe added.

A Shared Love for F&D

When asked about her favourite Fisher & Donaldson bake, Phoebe was quick to answer:

“Apart from the obvious strawberry tarts, it’s got to be your fudge doughnuts every time!”
