History

After
the Great War of 1914-1918. The soldiers of the British Army
slowly trickled home to find 'The Land Fit for Heros' promised
to them had not changed from the world they had left behind.
The economic conditions were just as harsh as in the days before
hostilities. William Fisher, a grocer and his brother in law
David Donaldson were keen to better themselves and together
they founded in 1919 the firm of Fisher and Donaldson in Cupar,
Fife.
They established a sound bakery business, founded on excellent
craft skills and produced bread and cakes to a quality standard
that endures to this day. Indeed, Fisher and Donaldson that
is now administered by the sons on the great nephew of William
Fisher is the sole remaining bakery business to survive out
of nine craft bakeries operating in the Cupar area at the end
of the Second World War in 1945.
By the late fifties Fisher and Donaldson had expanded into St.Andrews
by purchasing the respected firm of G.Armit Confectioner in
Church St.
An expansion into the Dundee area during the sixties led to
our products being enjoyed by a much wider audience with our
shops in the center of Dundee, Lochee and on the Perth Road.
In the mid seventies the business completely refurbished the
St. Andrews bakery, purchased the neighboring local business
of G.H Mac Arthur and entirely refurbished our retail shops
giving a firm foundation for the next fifty years.
The addition of cafe premises in Cupar and Dundee in the nineties
has consolidated our position as the east of Scotland's premier
bakery.
